Well, I spent my morning at the kitty hospital because Mister Oscar Allen is not doing very well and Beth is currently on a plane heading back to Philly after a 4-day stay with her family in Michigan.
On Sunday I noticed that one string of my string bikini was much shorter (about 6 inches) than the other and as per the usual, Oscar was suspect---he loves to chew. On Monday I woke up to him spitting up massive amounts of water and saliva. It continued on Tuesday and so I pulled out my kitty emergency book and read up on possible solutions/whether or not he should go to the vet. I did some alterations to the living sitch, namely separting the kitties so I could figure out if Oscar was eating/drinking. On Wednesday it looked like he had been so I held off on the office visit but he continued to be uncharacteristically lethargic. Last night I took him to bed with me and had him curl up on the bed next to me. He hardly moved the entire night and this morning I decided something had to be done so I made the executive surrogate mother decision to take him to the kitty hospital. They got him in promptly at 9:30am, just a mere 1/2 hour after opening. I was grateful for their efforts to change appointments to take a look at him.
After seeing the X-Ray and detecting high abdominal discomfort the DOC let me know that she really thought he needed to go into surgery. On the X-Ray I was able to see massive amounts of gas backed up in his belly and where the string was actually causing his intestines to accordian into a very small region in his middle. I haven't made the decision for surgery yet because it's going to be a couple grand and I can't make that choice for Beth. Her flight should be landing within the hour. I am anxious to talk with her and get Oscar on the road to recovery.
UPDATE:
Oscar is out of surgery, they did indeed find a good chunk of my bikini strap in his intestines. He'll be at the kitty hospital until Saturday for recovery and is currently doing well.
